Draw like Picasso

This drawing course is a wonderful mix of lectures, visits to draw at the Lahore Museum, seminars on art history, modern practice, and the varied role of drawing in our lives. It also involves the practical account of resources and procedures, and the making of individual drawing sets. This is a seven day course that offers a clear foundation in drawing for everyone, from a complete beginner to an expert, and also for those who would like to refresh their drawing skills. 


Lecture 1:

Introduction to the art of drawing, an in depth discussion on how an eye is trained to look, Different ways of seeing, initiation of hand and eye coordination, the power of mark making, how to use simplest materials like pencil effectively (includes what pencil to use, special way to hold your pencil, wrist motion and shoulder motion etc.)

Lecture 2:

Starting with straight lines, introduction to basic shapes, how to see shapes within objects, understanding the forms, structures & the space they are in, introduction to perspective, exploring materials such as match-sticks and ropes to comprehend and draw the shapes.

Materials: Drawing board, paper, lead pencils, matchsticks, paper tape, and assorted ropes.

Lecture 3:

Exploring outdoors, absorbing the shapes and forms found in nature and man-made structures. Quick sketching with charcoal/pencil of the architecture around the LUMS campus.

Materials each participant should bring for this lecture: Drawing board, Paper, lead pencils, charcoal sticks.

Lecture 4:

Field trip to Lahore Museum, discussion around master’s paintings, choosing an object from the collection and replicating it. (Instructions for next week to choose a colour, wear the same colour to class and bring objects of the same colour and materials for collage.)

Materials each participant should bring for this lecture: Drawing boards, paper, lead and colour pencils.

Lecture 5:

Introduction to colour, paper construction, assembling a collage, studying a still life composition with pencil and then using colour.

Materials each participant should bring for this lecture: Drawing board, paper, three objects each participant of the chosen colour, magazine cut outs, printouts, books, photographic prints, glue.

Lecture 6:

Introduction to human body, understanding the shapes within, body proportions, body postures through stick figure, quick sketching.

Materials each participant should bring for this lecture: Drawing boards, paper, lead pencil.

Lecture 7:

Practical exercises around the human figure, including hands, feet and portraits. Field trip to a studio of a renowned artist, Q & A session.

Lecture 8:

Q&A Session and Life Drawing all day.

Beginning Date: April 15th, 2017
Wednesdays and Saturdays (6 Saturdays & 2 Wednesdays)
Wednesdays: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Saturdays: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Drawing Course will run for 6 weeks (8 classes in total)

PKR 20,000.00

Fees include access to IT and library (no accommodation and meals), and a formal tea at the beginning and end of the course. However, there are no sources of funding available for these courses for the time being.

  • Fees can be paid online via credit/debit card or via payment vouchers at the bank on campus.
  • If you are paying via voucher or at an ATM, please send us a scanned copy of the payment receipt at lifetime.learning@lums.edu.pk.
  • All fees have to be paid 10 days before the course starts.
  • Student’s place in the short course is not confirmed until the fees is paid in full. 


A 5% discount is available to the following groups:

  • Repeat students of Lifetime Learning at LUMS Centre.

The appropriate section of the application form must be filled out by the applicant in order to avail the discount.


In order to cancel the agreement with us and to leave the course you have to apply within 14 days from the date on which you received the offer and write to us on lifetime.learning@lums.edu.pk.

Please keep in mind that if you leave the course, you must advise the Lifetime Learning LUMS Centre in writing on lifetime.learning@lums.edu.pk and get written confirmation of the withdrawal. However, tuition fees will not be refunded; but you will receive a voucher which can be used to enrol for another course at LUMS in the future.  

It is essential that you meet the criteria below before you submit your application form:

  • Please ensure you have read all our terms and conditions including the payments and cancellations policy.
  • You must meet all the minimum requirements for our program mentioned below.
  • Please complete all sections in the online application, failure to do this will result in your application not being successful. 



Once you have completed the online application and registered for your desired course(s), you will receive a confirmation email from the Lifetime Learning@LUMS team (lifetime.learning@lums.edu.pk). You can then make the payment online (via credit/debit card) or by downloading a voucher (and paying it at the Bank). You then receive an email with the invoice number that confirms your successful enrolment in the course(s).



  • Read up about the course in advance, so that you are aware of what is happening in the classes from day one.
  • Attend all the lectures and group activities for this course.
  • Submit all assignments and projects given to you on time.



The Lifetime Learning LUMS Centre reviews every application fairly and equally (on the basis of merit) and not on first come first serve basis.

  • A good grasp of the English language as most of the Lifetime Learning courses will be taught in English.
  • Minimum age requirement of 15+ years.
